Planning and implementation of electrical testing

The ITAINNOVA electrical laboratory aims to support businesses to place their electrical and/or electronic products on the market by offering the following services:

  • Diagnosis and testing in the field of electromagnetic compatibility and electrical safety for electrical and electronic equipment and systems.
  • Study and analysis of regulations and standards applicable to a product.
  • Advice and consultancy regarding CE product marking
  • Validations and proposed changes in new product design development.
  • Providing training to companies on the above topics.

Types of services

Technical assistance for CE marking

To put equipment into service or a product on the market in the European Union, it must be in accordance with the requirements of applicable detailed European Directives, evaluated according to the relevant compliance procedures and must also bear the CE conformity marking. The manufacturer (importer or authorised representative in the EU) assumes sole and absolute responsibility for product conformity with the applicable Directives.
The manufacturer must:
  • Comply with the technical regulations and standards affecting its product
  • Perform tests to demonstrate compliance with the previous point
  • Establish a technical file
  • Follow the applicable evaluation procedure for conformity
  • Issue a conformity declaration
  • Put the CE mark on the product

Electrical low voltage safety testing

The low voltage directive 2006/95/EC aims to ensure the safety of persons, domestic animals and property, provided the equipment is properly installed and maintained and used for the intended purpose. ITA gives advice on electrical safety standards and performs the following types of testing:
  • Marking, instructions and construction.
  • Protection against direct and indirect contact.
  • Temperature, arc or radiation: Temperatures and overheating, fire resistance.
  • Non-electrical hazards: Heat resistance, resistance to surface currents.
  • Insulation: Dielectric strength and insulation resistance, creepage distance, distance in the air and distances through insulation
  • Mechanical resistance: Cutting Edges, Stability, constant force, Impact, Fall, IK Degrees of protection
  • Non-mechanical influences: Resistance to moisture, Environmental testing, Resistance to oxidation, IP Degrees of protection
  • Overloading: normal and abnormal operation 

Electromagnetic compatibility testing

According to the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive 2004/108/CE, the manufacturer is responsible for its equipment or electrical and/or electronic product meeting the essential directive requirements:
  • Satisfactory operation in its electromagnetic environment
  • Electromagnetic disturbance emission limited to a level that allows other devices to be operated in the same environment according to their intended purpose
  • Have a level of immunity against electromagnetic disturbances produced by other equipment operating according to its intended purpose in the same environment


  • Semi-anechoic chamber (10m): one of the few of its kind that exist in Spain and Europe; measuring approximately 18x9x7 m, its additional equipment consists of:
    • RF Amplifiers from 9 kHz to 6 GHz
    • Dynamometric system for full vehicle operation in EMC testing
    • Antennae generating electromagnetic field from 9 kHz to 18 GHz
  • Semi-anechoic chamber (3m)
  • EMI receiver from 20Hz to 26GHz
  • LISN single-phase, 3-phase and for automotive use
  • Periodic and horn bilog antennas to measure electromagnetic field from 9 kHz to 18GHz
  • RF amplifiers up to 4.2GHz
  • Signal generators up to 20GHz
  • Radio interference generators: e.g. TER/R, shock waves, voltage variations and interruptions
  • Broadband probes for measuring radio spectrum
  • Climate chambers
  • Thermographic camera
  • Impact testers for determination of impact strength (IK degrees)
  • Equipment for determining water and dust resistance (IP grade)
  • Chambers for determining fire resistance (flammability)
  • Equipment to measure dielectric strength, leakage current, insulation resistance, earthing continuity
