Metrology and digitalisation

Services provided

  • Dimensional metrology: The Metrology Laboratory has the appropriate equipment for the dimensional characterisation of different parts and components. The services provided include 3-dimensional measurements, form errors, roughness measurements and contour measurements.
  • Scanning: The ITA has white light scanning equipment and a photogrammetry system for scanning large objects. The scan gives a digitised point cloud with the surface 3D coordinates of the scanned object.
  • Reverse engineering: This can be considered as a special case of scanning. It is applicable at any stage in the product life cycle, and for any parts in all kinds of sectors. After scanning a part, the surfaces can be reconstructed, thus obtaining the part CAD model in formats compatible with different 3D design software (STL, IGS, STP).

Rapid prototyping

Services provided

  • Building physical prototypes of complex geometries directly from 3D CAD model using different materials. New product designs can be improved and verified in aspects affecting its functionality, aesthetics, ergonomics and usability, as well as facilitating communication between the partners involved in the different design phases and new product launch.

Laser cutting

Services provided

  • Laser cutting for thin gauge material (metals, ceramics, polymers) that absorb radiation at a wavelength of 1064nm. Starting from vector files (preferably DXF and DWG formats), high precision cutting with complex geometries can be performed.
