SOFIA is a collaborative project between Iceland, Spain and France on the transfer of an innovation from CNA CEFAG school of graphic media in Paris. It is a project funded by the Leonardo Lifelong Learning Programme.
The innovation is the application of a Virtual Classroom, a management tool for teachers in grahic media subjects.
The project is divided into several workpackages that span two years. The project will be formally finished in September 2010. At that point each participant shall have transferred the innovation from France, adopted the philosophy and practice of the Virtual Classroom, and tested and beta tested one module.
The target groups of the project are three main groups:
- Young people at risk of dropping out.
- Students with limited or impaired access to study
- Adult learners
SOFIA is based on an open source software called Ganesha. The transfer is not a translation of a ready made package but the original development of study content written according to the philosophy and technique of SOFIA. To create the necessary communication channels between student and teacher the Adobe Suites, CS-C4 are used.
